About This Spot

At Herreras Mexican Restaurant #3, arriving feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where the hum of easy conversation and the clink of glasses set a relaxed, welcoming rhythm. The pace is unhurried, inviting you to settle in and savor not just a meal, but a moment of genuine connection. It’s the kind of place where the staff know your name or, at least, greet you like an old friend — warm smiles and casual greetings make every visit feel personal and comfortable.

The atmosphere leans into a thoughtful simplicity, anchored by the steady presence of hearty, authentic flavors that reveal themselves in everything served from the kitchen. Here, the food doesn’t overwhelm but rather offers a satisfying, homey experience — dishes layered with familiar ingredients like melted cheese, fresh salsa that dances with a hint of cilantro, and tender meats grilled with care. It’s easy to imagine sharing plates of street tacos or soaking up the sunny Texas afternoon with a refreshing margarita in hand, surrounded by the easy camaraderie of locals and travelers alike.

This is a place where the small touches — like freshly baked flour tortillas or a perfectly salted rim on a watermelon margarita — speak volumes about the love put into each meal. Whether you stop in for breakfast or a casual dinner, the generous portions and straightforward, genuine flavors encourage you to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of good food and good company. Herreras feels less like a stop along the highway and more like a neighborhood tradition, a spot where stories are shared and the food feels like a warm invitation to return.

Passing through, only had a Taco salad, but food was fresh and good, chips were good, salsa was warm and good - a worthy stop :-)

Ok, so this may look like a typical feeder-road Mexican restaurant, but the food is really good! Super nice people too. Best salsa I've ever tasted, plus the entrees and the fried ice cream were great! Good quality ingredients, no fat-laden fajita meat here. Try it, you'll be glad you did.

We enjoyed wonderful service and a very delicious Watermelon Margarita- fresh squeezed, delicious and oh so fresh. The cheese used in recipes is the liquid stuff from a can- for my nachos I would have preferred freshly grated. When you are seated out comes chips, queso cheese and jalapeño’s. That was great. Very casual environment- good food. Again the service was exceptional.

If you're looking for a great breakfast look no further. They have amazing breakfast plates all for $6. They taste awesome. I ate there every morning while I was in Temple.

really enjoyed our recent lunch at Herrera's. the food was very good, with generous portions. i thought i wasn't going to like the salsa because it looked thin/watery as opposed to chunky, but it was amazing! a little heavy on the cilantro, but that is a-ok with me!

Was in mood for some good Tex-Mex cooking, ordered fajita burritos especial. Great taste with just the correct amount of liquid cheese with the correct amount of consistency. Rice and beans were so delicious and chips so crispy. Really enjoyed the food and home feeling atmosphere. I highly recommend Herrera's Mexican restaurant. Special thanks to chef Chava for preparing such delicious food!
